2017: Seit Laniuish

About the Set

Composed by Mairéad Casey, Michelle Casey, Johnnie & Maura Duffy, Theresa Walshe, Siobhán Casey, Deirdre Farrell & Maura Kenny.

Seit Laniuish, derived from the Irish “Oileán Uisce” “Island of the Water” takes its name from an area close to Lough Ree, a lake on the river Shannon, in Newtowncashel, Co Longford.

Local folklore tells us that in the area of Laniuish, swamp people (lucht na lathaí) came out at night to dance in circles. Hence the reason for circles in our set. Waves and arches are symbolic of the water and bridges of the River Shannon.

The step danced is the step that was danced in the old local set.

These videos are approved by the composers of the set.

It was taken by Andrew (from the Irish Set Dancers Frankfurt) at our 20. workshop in October 2017.

2016: Seit Chamuis

2015: Laois Lancers Set

2014: Manchester Set

About the Set

Charlie Kiely showed us in 2014, in a small additional workshop, his Manchester Set.

According to our workshop Charlie wrote:

We danced the whole set in Frankfurt on Tuesday evening and I was very pleased at how well it went, even the chaining figure. One important change is that I have altered the order...swopping figures 2 and 3. It means 2 straight forward figures before the hardest figure. When I get home I will tidy the notes up and send you the updated notes.
